Vocational Examinations Update

Dear Parent/Carer

In light of the latest release from the Department of Education at 6:30 yesterday evening, and following on from the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday 4th January,  we have made the decision to postpone all vocational examinations that were due to take place from 6th January. This guidance gives authority to schools to take the decision regarding postponing this series of examinations. This will affect all examinations due to be sat in January and February 2021 for Business Studies, iMedia and Health & Social Care.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly.  Although we have reviewed the risk assessments and put protocols in place, given the level of transmissibility of the new strain the level of infection in the local area, we no longer feel that we can guarantee the safety of students and staff required to administer the examinations.

I am sorry that this is information is coming so close to examinations and realise this may be upsetting for students having committed significant time to their studies in preparation. However, we feel that this is the responsible and appropriate decision to make, that most aligns with the governments message to stay at home.

We will continue to liaise with the examination boards and work alongside them to ensure that no student is detrimentally affected. As of this morning the current position from the examination board is as follows:

  • We will certificate any learner who is unable to take their examinations and has enough evidence to receive a certificate that they need for progression.
  • Learners unable to take their assessment this January may be able to take their assessment at a later date. If that is not possible, we will put in place arrangements to ensure no learner is disadvantaged.

When we have further information and guidance about future assessments we will advise you as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully

Neil Dunn
