Charity Swim Success

The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College are celebrating the success of one of their Year 10 students Amy Newland.  Along with family and friends Amy swam across the Solent from Gosport, near Portsmouth to Ryde in the Isle of Wight, which is approximately 3 miles.  This is the first time Amy has ever swam in open waters and was not only the youngest of the group, but was the first female to finish.

Amy has been training tirelessly since March fitting in training alongside maintaining a high standard of work in school at a busy time of year.  Despite an ankle injury sustained in June, Amy pushed through to complete the challenge.

The group raised an amazing £3000 for the charity Aspire, which is a charity that supports people with spinal injuries..

Martin Coulson, Headteacher, met with Amy to congratulate her on her achievement and said her modesty and hard work ethic was both inspiring and commendable.
