Interventions & Support
The Bromfords School delivers a wide range of whole school interventions and support. Additionally, the SEND Department is proud to facilitate the following:
Access Arrangements – As a school we can assess students from Year 9 in-house to determine whether they would meet the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ)’s criteria for Access Arrangements. It is not necessary for a student to be identified on our SEND Register to be assessed. Access Arrangements may include Extra Time, a Reader, a Scribe and so forth during Progress Exams and formal Examinations. All Access Arrangements must be the students ‘Normal Way of Working.’
Pass – Selected students with or without an EHCP of all age groups are provided with a pass which enables them to access our designated space to undertake in-class assessments with support, spend break and lunch time there where board games and various activities are set up and as and when required for brief periods of ‘Time Out.’ A member of SEND staff is permanently present to supervise this area.
‘I am Special’ – This intervention, written by Peter Vermeulen, is delivered to students either 1:1 or in small groups, with Autism to help them to understand their diagnosis, gain confidence and thrive. Students work through the specially designed worksheets with an LSA on a wide range of topics, including how the brain works, physical characteristics, likes and dislikes, sensory issues, strengths and weaknesses, learning preferences, relationships and plans for the future.
Laptop / Touch Typing – We have a bank of laptops which are allocated to specific students for a variety of reasons including underdeveloped fine motor skills to be used within lessons. Furthermore, we run a Touch-Typing intervention group for a small group of students to improve their speed and accuracy of word processing.
Speech and Language Therapy (including Lego Therapy) – This intervention is led by our link Speech and Language Therapist Ms. N Reeve (C&D Speech Therapy) who is with us one day a week and supports students 1:1, in pairs or in small groups to develop their social use of communication alongside their expressive and receptive language skills. Please see this attached flyer for additional information regarding Lego Therapy.
Therapy Dog – This intervention is provided by Essex Therapy Dogs for a small group of students to support with their social, emotional and mental health.
As a school we are continuously assessing our students and considering which interventions would best meet your son / daughter’s needs however, should you feel your son / daughter would benefit from any of these interventions please enquire via our email address: SEND@bromfords.essex.sch.uk
